14th International PRC Seminar — Oslo, 16-18 Sept 2025

On day one of the PRC’s 14th International Seminar, a dedicated JANE-2 WP6 meeting gathered ~60 participants from 18 countries to join forces on integrating needs-based palliative care (PC) into routine cancer care across Europe. JANE-2 WP6: Integrating needs-based PC into cancer care WP6 unites 27 participating countries to:

  • 🌍 build a European “network-of-networks” linking national initiatives with EU cancer strategies;
  • 🧩 develop a European framework for early, needs-based PC across the cancer continuum:
  • 💻 test digital care pathways (including PRO-based triggers) to ensure timely PC.
  • 🎓 define education & competence standards
  • 📊 create and pilot EU indicators and a shared dataset to monitor integration and outcomes;

Session highlights

Opened by WP6 leader Stein Kaasa together with coordinator Line Foss, with  task presentations from Task Leads (Mogens Grønvold, Marianne J. Hjermstad, Mari Lõhmus, Jesús González Barboteo) presented alongside Carlos Centeno on collaboration with the EAPC Atlas 2025.

Key discussion points

  • System barriers to early integration and how  digitalized care pathways can embed PC in everyday oncology practice.
  • common European framework and minimum education/competence standards, adaptable to national contexts.
  • EU-level indicators to measure and compare progress on integration.
  • Close cooperation with EAPC Atlas 2025 to align mapping data with WP6 indicators for policy and best-practice exchange.
